High School Opportunities
Kroka Expeditions Semester School: Two options for high school semester programs: Vermont Ski and Canoe, or Ecuador Wilderness Quest. Visit www.kroka.org to learn more about these experiential educational opportunities. 

Ocean Classroom High School Semester at Sea: Sail from January 31 until May 26, taking high school classes and visiting ports around the Caribbean and the eastern seaboard. Find much more information at www.oceanclassroom.org

Rensselaer: Design Your Future Day: Junior girls are invited to attend to learn more about careers in the fields of engineering, math and science. This is a free workshop for girls and their parents. The event will be held April 21st on the Rensselaer campus. Applications available in the guidance office or at www.eng.rpi.edu/dyfd

Pine Manor College: Rudin Leadership Conference: This is a weekend leadership conference for high school girls. Two sessions: June 11-13 or June 25-27. The cost is $150, which includes accomodations, meals and activities. The conference takes place on the campus of Pine Manor College, outside of Boston. See Mrs. Chapman for an application. 

Presidential Classroom -- a week in Washington, DC for current sophomores, juniors or seniors who have a B or higher average and demonstrate commitment to academics and service in the school and/or community.  This is an opportunity to met ambassadors and Senators, journalists and lobbyists debating contemporary topics, exploring the capital and getting immersed in the intriguing world of politics, government, and international relations.  The following programs are available:  Inaugural 2009 (January 17-21); Presidential Classroom Scholars ( June 28-July 5); Communication & Journalism ( July 6-11); Intelligence and National Security ( July 6-11); Law, Justice, and Human Right (July 12-18); FutureWorld Leaders Summit ( July 19-25); Science, Technology and Public Policy (July 26-August 1): Global Health & Environment (July 26-August 1).  Cost ranges from @$1,600 .   Partial scholarships are available but need to apply by March 31.  For more information see Mrs. Chapman and go to the web site:  www.Presidential Classroom.org.

Civic Leadership Academy, July 10 -18 held at St. Anselm College (NH)-- an experiential, collaborative and rigorous learning environment for students age 16 and up to engage in discussions about public policy challenges facing state and local communities and the principles and models of civic leadership in democracy.  Held at the NH Institute of Politics on the campus.  Cost = $995.  Mrs. Chapman has additional information and applications.  You can also go online to www.anselm.edu/nhiop.

Close Up Student Summer Academy, Washington, DC.  Gain access to key poliy and media experts; discuss & debate current issues with peers from schools nationwide; explore DC's monuments & memorials and earn college credit from the University of Virginia.  Check out the video at CloseUp.org.  Six days in DC:  June 7-12, June 14-19; June 21-26; July 2-7 or July 12 -17.  Cost = @$ 1,300.

Summer Leaders Seminar: High school juniors who are strong academic students and involved in athletics and excurricular activities can apply to attend West Point for a week-long leadership seminar. Consider this if you are interested in attending West Point after graduating. Application deadline is April 1st. First session is May 29-June 4. Second session is June 5-11. Cost is $350 plus transportation to West Point.
